Q: Can crying cause miscarriage?

A week ago I began spotting. I had a trans vaginal ultrasound that at 6.2 weeks and it didn't show a sac or fetal pole or anything. Because it was inconclusive, my OB did a serial HCG. It went from 42,897 on Monday to 58,964 on Wednesday. It's increasing but not doubling. I will have another ultrasound at 7.3 weeks. They think since nothing showed up on 1st US I'm going to miscarry. I've been okay at work but crying every morning and night. I was off today and have been crying off n on all day, at times sobbing hysterically. I'm worried now if there is a baby it will cause harm. I'm going to try to stop until I have my next US in a few days.

No crying cannot cause a m/c. I have read your previous posts. When numbers are over 6000 they can take up to 4-5 days to double and yours are around 50,000. It is very odd that nothing was seen after an internal ultrasound. It is possible you may be experiencing a molar pregnancy, ectopic. I can't think of any other reasons why your numbers are so high and yet nothing seen via internal u/s. Nothing you are doing is going to cause a m/c. One in every 4 pregnancies does not progress either caused by a brighten ovium (bad spelling) unbalanced chromosomes etc. it is nothing you are doing. It's hard waiting but your u/s next week will give you your best answers. I've unfortunately had a lot of experience with m/c before this pregnancy now I had 4 losses back to back after seeing heartbeats in 12mths trying to conceive no:2. I had to have 3 d&C surgeries to remove them so whatever you end up experiencing if you need a friend or support or have any questions. I'll try my best for you. x

I'm so sorry this is happening to you :( With regards to the HCG levels, once they reach 6000miu they only "double" approximately every 96 hours. see these charts: http://www.countdownmypregnancy.com/tools/beta_doubling_calculator.php

So the levels are good. Crying won't cause miscarriage or harm a baby. I know it's impossible, because I've been there but try not to worry until you have a definite diagnosis. Thinking of you.
