Q: Epidural or NO?

I am on the fence about chosing to do an epidural this time. I had one with my daughter. I have read that an epi can cause labor to be longer and can make pushing more difficult. I pushed for 2 1/2 hours with my DD and now I wonder if that is the reason why. Anyone have experience with both ways and prefer one over the other? Thank you in advance!

My nurse didn't feel I needed one because I was handling the pain really well. But she made a good point "no need to be a hero". I mean, really, why feel the pain if you don't have to? That was how I looked at it anyhow. I also had a few stitches afterwards. Glad I didn't feel a thing! :)

You don't have to decide now. You can wait to see what the labor pain is like for you then decide then.

I had an epidural with my oldest and didnt have one with my last, honestly the pain was the same, I felt no difference at all... im currently 36+4 weeks along but my baby is transverse, so c section it is. :(

Thanks girls. I have done a lot of reading on the subject and I am leaning toward not getting one. I just keep telling myself that the pain won't last long, I just don't know how much of that pain I will be able to handle. LOL. I will talk to my OB but I am sure that he will say it's a personal preference. I was just curious! :)

I've done it both and I'm definitely having an epidural this time. It's a personal choice only u can decide and it's not something you can always plan, some people just find they can't cope any longer and need it. Discuss your questions with your OB and see what they say and think. :-)

It depends how much pain you can manage, everyone is different. With my first daughter I did have an epidural but my second went faster and easier that I did not need an epidural. But I know some moms that had an epidural every time and others that never had one. As for preference this time I'll try not to get one but if is too much to handle I'll get one.
