Q: Cant see the baby?

Went to the er with cramps and spotting, and blood tests came back postive for pregnancy and I know I'm about 5 weeks. But the ultrasound couldn't see anything but an ovarian cyst. Wondering if this is blocking the baby from being seen or if it's just too early to see the baby??? Anyone else gone through this? Called my doctor but still pretty stressed.

I had bleeding at 6 weeks and had an ultrasound at 6.2 weeks that showed a "fluid collection." They wanted to check again in a week but it seemed they thought it would confirm bad news. I was overjoyed when I had my repeat ultrasound at 7.3 weeks and it showed a sac and a fetal pole with heartbeat, 147 bpm! Yours was probably just too early to show anything.

I feel it is too early to see anything on an abdominal scan too. Nothing was seen in my case till 6 weeks+. When I went the first time around 4/5 weeks, only a cyst was seen too and I got very upset but thank God for the repeat scan at 6 weeks+ when we finally got to see the gestational sac. FX for you

Only on an internal U/S is the gestational sac seen at around 5 weeks then the yolk sac around 5 & a half weeks followed by a foetal pole around 6+ weeks with a flickering heartbeat. If you ovulated slightly earlier than you thought you could still be in the 4th week and that is very normal for nothing to be seen via an internal U/S, when it is so early even 2,3,4 days can make a massive difference of what can be seen.
At this stage you best indication would be for them to have run HCG bloods which you say they did but also for them to be run again 48hrs later to ensure they are doubling. If you wait another week for another internal u/s you will see more. Best of luck in your pregnancy progressing. Nothing to worry about at this stage completely normal. I've had 6 pregnancies and a zillion ultrasounds so speaking from experience. x
