Q: Recovering from a perineal tear

While delivering my little one I suffered a third degree perineal tear. Got stitches on the left side and right side.. but more on the left side. I'm recovering with pain killers and ice pads and am more comfortable lying down than sitting or walking.

Walking for 5 mins is still bareable but then after that i feel the pain. Is this coz the blood is flowing down when I stand or am I weak in the legs to stand for longer periods or is this normal and will I be able to stand better after sometime?

It's been a week since i got stitched up. Sitting normally is very hard and painful..

Anyone experienced this?

Hi Kelly,

I can't speak from personal experience, but would think this to be very normal. Think about if you had an injury and suture to another part of your body, like your foot or leg. It would hurt when you stood up because of gravity and the increased blood flow. Give it time, it will heal. In the meantime, have you tried sitting on a donut pillow (like the kind for hemorrhoids) or even your boppy pillow if you have one? Might help take the pressure off "the area" and allow you to sit for a bit.
