Q: Finding out the gender at 10 weeks

There is a new blood test, the Harmony Prenatal test, that tests for trisomy 13, 18, and 21 at ten weeks at 99% accuracy rate. It also determines the babies gender. I already have the kit and am going to have it done! Has anyone here done the FetalDNA test? Did you regret finding out so early?

I had the Harmony test done during both of my pregnancies and I'm glad I did it. I don't think I paid anything for it, but you can always call your insurance company and make sure. I think it's different for everyone, but like you said you already have the kit, so you've probably made it that far. The only thing that's weird to think about before you do it is you need to think about how you want to be notified. With my son I got the call while I was at work, running into a meeting. It was such awkward timing and it wasn't the whole sitting together holding hands while we found out over an US. But that's fine... I'm sure you could ask them if you could come pick up the results in an envelope if you wanted to have a special moment and find out together. With this pregnancy I found out over phone too, but I really didn't care... I just wanted to know! I am glad I found out early... I'm a planner and it took the stress off of picking names for a gender you won't have ;)

We did it through my doctor. It was only $25 out of pocket, everything else insurance covered. its 99% accurate. We then confirmed with an ultrasound at 16 weeks.

My OB offers a similar test as well, it is called the Panorama. Our insurance wouldn't cover it and we are not finding out the gender of the baby so we decided not to get it. But I think it is so awesome that they can find out so much so early on and non-invasively! Good luck. :)

I am hoping I can have this test done (although my doctor uses a test with another name) but I don't know if insurance covers it. If not, we probably can't afford it but I definitely want to know gender ASAP since we are having two we are super anxious to find out! Everyone I have heard that has gotten the test done has been really happy as it provides not only gender but a sense of relief about certain issues that the baby could possibly have.
