My Dr was rubbing/massaging my perineum during pushing. I had no idea what she was doing, but I remember appreciating it at the time. It wasn't until years later I learned what she was doing and why. I had no external tearing during that delivery, even though my son had an upper 95 percentile large head! I will be talking to my Dr about it this time around, as I do believe it helped me.

Yes, and it didn't help me as it was still necessary for me to have an episiotomy. My midwife and I had already talked about that I wanted to tear naturally but if she didn't make the cut I literally would have torn my rectum. So apparently some of us don't stretch as well as others lol.
