Q: Does anyone know of anything that will help relieve restless leg syndrome??

Going on about 2 weeks now of barely any sleep. Doctor said I will have to tough it out until baby comes but didn't offer any suggestions.

My mother suffered from restless leg syndrome terribly and the doctor had told her tonic water helps wonders and for her it did. Also bananas for the potassium. Hope this helps!

So glad you asked this question! I had it for several nights and it was so hard to sleep. I never imagined there was something you could take to help it.

I had already googled the crap out of it lol. I even bought some and had already taken it a couple of times before I asked the doctor. I didn't see anything bad about it either. Thanks girls! :)

My GP suggested the magnesium because at 34 weeks my levels were low and she said it was perfectly fine because our bodies need it. I also mentioned to my OB/gyn that I was on it for the bad leg cramps and was told that was the best thing to do because she also prescribed to her patients 200 mg of Magnesium for leg cramping. Doesn't make sense that they would tell you "absolutely not". That doctor sounds like a moron. Our Bodies need magnesium... look at your prenatals. It is on the list... at the normal requirement dosage. You may have a deficiency. You have had this pain since early on because I remember you were around 14 or 15 weeks asking about leg cramps.

That's really curious and I just googled a crap ton of stuff about magnesium and everything I've seen said not only is it ok, it's good. From babycenter (but I saw this on many other sites):
When you're pregnant, magnesium helps build and repair your body's tissues. A severe deficiency during pregnancy may lead to preeclampsia, poor fetal growth, and even infant mortality.

Magnesium and calcium work in combination: Magnesium relaxes muscles, while calcium stimulates muscles to contract. Research suggests that proper levels of magnesium during pregnancy can help keep the uterus from contracting prematurely.

Magnesium also helps build strong bones and teeth, regulates insulin and blood sugar levels, and helps certain enzymes function. Research indicates it may help control cholesterol and irregular heartbeats. Magnesium may also be helpful in reducing leg cramps.

I asked my doctor yesterday if I could take magnesium and her words were "Absolutely not." I didn't really think to ask her why not, I assumed she knew. Now I am starting to wonder because 3 people have now suggested it. My normal doctor is out of town for the time being so I guess I will just wait to ask her.

Likewise, my doctor suggested Magnesium for achy legs and leg cramping (mine is a nice combo of all of that). I just started taking it this past week so I can't say for sure it's working 100% but I have noticed a bit less of an achy, restless feeling when I try to go to bed.

Adding Magnesium to your supplements should help. I took 200 mg of Magnesium additional to my Prenatals when that started happening to me my last pregnancy.
