I know I'm going to sound like the Negative Nancy here. I don't want to bring you down (because it is exciting!) but thought you might want another perspective. I looked into having this done and found that actual use is showing them to not be as accurate as they claim to be. I am not over 35 so my insurance wouldn't cover it and for a test with questionable accuracy, I wasn't going to pay $500 for it. The test provider charged $225 and the doctor's office charged $250 to process the paperwork. If it had been covered, I might have done it but probably would have also done a CVS or amnio.
This is one of the articles I read. Ignore the trigger-worthy headline and just skip to the part about test accuracy: https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2014/12/14/oversold-and-unregulated-flawed-prenatal-tests-leading-abortions-healthy-fetuses/aKFAOCP5N0Kr8S1HirL7EN/story.html

yeah these are all usually the same just different labs. The only one I could get was called MaterniT21. Actually the only reason I wanted the test was for gender but again, it's different and won't tell you what both babies are, either that there is a X or Y chromosome.

yea, that makes sense if you are having twins. I know my insurance will cover it but I think it is because I'm 37. I'm just excited to know we will find out the sex of the baby at 10 weeks! Also, I will feel much better just getting a blood test as opposed to putting a needle into the placenta. I know there is a greater risk of losing the pregnancy by doing that. I'm not sure if the Harmony test is the same but it sounds like it. It's to test for the chromosomal abnormalities as well. However, I think it does take about 2-3 weeks to get the results back from this test. We shall see!

I have had a similar test called Harmony test. Same thing just different companies? It gave me peace of mind to know that my chances were low for chromosomal abnormalities and we were able to find out we were having a boy.

My insurance wouldn't cover it so we decided not to get it. However, my doctor and everyone I know who has experience with it says that even if insurance won't cover, the company that makes the test will usually cover a lot so the most you pay out of pocket is $200-$300. I hear a lot of insurances will cover it for women over 35 though. I have no issues with the test and I was looking forward to getting it but with twins it was going to be more difficult to identify which baby had issues if they had elevated risks.
