Q: Hospital will not confirm my pregnancy and change my medication should I continue to take it?

I found out I was pregnancy a week ago after having 6 positive home pregnancy tests including 2 clear blue digitals. A couple days ago I went to the hospital to have my blood pressure medication changed because it is not recommended to take while pregnant. Anyways their urine test came out negative and I told them it would because all 4 of my other children would not come out positive on their test until I was almost 8 weeks along. They want me to continue my current medication what should I do? M/C in April 2015.

I forgot to mention that the doctor would not stop or change anything until their tests came back positive. Nor would they order a blood draw for me, but thanks to practically shoving proof in front of their face we are on our way to setting up future appointments. :) I couldn't be any happier!

Thanks ladies I became persistent and did in fact take all positive home pregnancy tests down. They decided to do a urine again and low and behold pregnant. They finally contacted OBGYN and they stopped all blood pressure medication with monitoring 2 times a week.

I would go to your Dr that prescribes the blood pressure medicine right away. I too have high blood pressure and when the Dr knew I was trying to conceive, he switched my bp medicine to Methlydopa. It's one of the only 2 bp meds that are safe during pregnancy.

I would demand a blood test to confirm pregnancy and not a urine test. Most at home pregnancy tests are more sensitive than the doctor's office pregnancy tests. Better yet, take your test in and show them. You really need to be the best advocate for you and your baby. If your medicine could be bad for baby, then push the issue until someone listens.

Go to your OBGYN and she can give you the proper advice and has the ability to write a different prescription.
