Q: Gender Reveal Party

The idea of having a gender reveal party became popular after my son was born (we didn't find out the sex so I guess it wouldn't have mattered anyway) so I really want to have one this go-around (I don't think I could stand another nine months of not knowing). I have an appointment on Wednesday and I will be just one day shy of ten weeks (surely one day won't matter...). If they offer me the Harmony test, I am going to take it but I want the result kept secret and mailed to me. So here's my question: When is the earliest it's okay to have a gender reveal party?? If the results come back and reach me by 12 weeks, most people wait until 18 or 20. I doubt my husband will be able to resist knowing so is 15 weeks too early? 13 or 14? I might be able to buy myself some time with party planning but there's no way we'll be able to hold out longer than 15 weeks. Am I being tacky?? Be brutally honest.

I know that with my family, it wouldn't have been a super big deal to get everyone together so we just called/texted my close family (brothers, aunt, cousin, etc) and then posted a picture on social media for extended family and friends. But my family also isn't the get together type, if that makes sense but some families love these kinds of events. I have seen the parties where they announce to the parents and I always thought those were neat (although no way I could be patient enough to wait!).

To be totally honest, I think the whole balloons flying out of a box or confetti coming out of balloons is a bit tacky (that's just my personal opinion). I get wanting it to be a surprise when you tell everyone though. On the other hand, my soon to be sister-in-law bought me two balloons (Spiderman and princesses) and when we were all together (this was for my uncles passing, I didn't plan a get together with all of the family) she had me let go of the one I wasn't having. I would have never planned that on my own but it was short, sweet and to the point (and very refreshing to many since we were all mourning) so I guess I'm torn, haha. I say do whatever the hell you want because it's your baby :)

We had an impromptu bbq to reveal the gender to our family. We just told them we were having a cookout and wanted everyone to come down for it. Not a gender reveal party per se, but yea. I was 15 weeks, almost 16.
