Q: Castor oil?

Let me just be clear... I am not thinking about taking this yet, or even at all. Has anyone tried castor oil? When did you do it and did it work for you? What were your side effects? I am not considering this yet, but just gathering information for the future, if I need it.

I do not recommend using castor oil, it makes you poop and can also make the baby poop. A woman where I live used it and it caused her baby to poop in the womb and suffocate. I refuse to ever use that stuff, it's unpredictable and unsafe.

I took it when I was about a week over due. The idea is that an upset stomach will lead to an upset uterus. And that is exactly what happened. I went to the toilet at least 10 times (which is why you need to drink lots of water... You dont want to get dehydrated). Anyways the contractions started just a few hours later. I also had a ' Stretch and sweep' earlier that day which i think helped. If you are thinking about it, do it when ur a bit over due. You dont want to go through that diarrhea if the baby is not ready to come out. And I know some people are not really for it but I figured it was a bit more natural that being induced with medicine which I was avoiding. (side note... You need to take a lot....)

My mom did it with me haha. She swears it worked. My concern would be that castor oil is a pretty effective laxative and might increase odds of messing during delivery or creating stomach cramps on top of labor pains.

Ack, Castor oil. Women usually do it as soon as the baby is full term (37 Weeks) to start that up. I refuse to do castor oil and instead used Flax Seed Oil Capsules which mimic progesterone to cause contracting. I started that at 38 weeks with my 1st born and he was born 1 day before his due date.
