Q: Is it safe to take Extra Strength Tums (generic Target brand) while pregnant?

Is it safe to take extra strength generic tums while pregnant, or should the be regular strength only? I'm dealing with heartburn something fierce today and all I have here is extra strength. It's been a while since my last child, so I can't quite remember! Thanks!

Yes! I believe it says not to exceed 12 in a day but I took them like candy with my kids. I had heartburn and acid reflux so bad I would wake up choking from the acid reflux so I would have to sleep propped up the last 2 months of pregnancy. With all 3 kids.

It is safe, it is just extra calcium.

However, I wanted to share something the lady teaching my childbirth class told me. She recommended almond milk to help with GERD. I hate almonds but I gave the vanilla flavored stuff a try. It actually helped me a lot! I didn't want to take too many tums because calcium will make you constipated, and I already have issues with that. I am now just drinking a glass of almond milk a day and have stopped using tums altogether.

Their website says no more than 6 in 24 hours. The Ovia app claims Tums are a Class C drug, which means adverse effects are possible, but potential benefits may outweigh the risk.

Yes! It is even safe to take Zantac. Unfortunately my stomach acid issue is so bad I have to use prevacid. But for the extra strength tums, I lived on that with my 1st born.
