Asked by Mrs.Mom

Q: Almost 39 weeks. Baby hardly moves!

I've told my OB about the lack of movement at every appointment. At 34 weeks we did an ultrasound to be sure all was ok and it was but at this point I wondered if others are in the same boat. I feel movement MAYBE 3 times in a 24hr period. Usually only a couple times. Always between 4-5am. The other time/s are random and very brief. Like one arm movement or something. Everything always checks out ok at my appointments but I wonder if anyone else has a quiet baby??

hello everyone,
every woman and baby can do and feel different movements during pregnancy. The lack of his movement can be indicative that he might be a little too tight inside, and, that he might be a little too big for the available space. The lack of their movement is nothing too big a deal to freak out. You always have a choice to consult your doctor so keep it easy. Only keep in mind to travel as less as possible. Too much traveling can make the baby uncomfortable. He can feel a little too stuck and this is where the situation can get a little out of hand. Anything before that is okay.

That sounds like my baby :) has moments where she is still for hours so I end up going to hospital for monitoring and she starts moving straight away, naughty little monkey lol. Such a relieve though when they start moving! Good luck hope labour happens for you soon :) xx

Perfect example of a stupid troll. My last comment was very anyone who answered this in an effort to comfort me. My comment gives the result of a check on a lack of a movement. Whomever clicked "unhelpful" to that is clearly just doing it to be an arse!

In case anyone checks back...I just had an OB appt. told her about reduced movement so I just finished a stress test. Monitored baby for 20 mins and wowie. I felt the baby move at least 15 times in that 20 mins. When I'm at home I never feel that much!! Nurse was all smiles and said baby is "beautiful" :). Very relieved and happy! I do have an anterior placenta which means it's harder to feel baby move. 6 days left til my due date!! Now I just wait as doc said I'm maybe .5cm dilated. So not much happening on the labour part of things yet!!

Baby's do not run out of room, movements may just feel different more like rolls and stretches rather than kicks. I have always been told if whatever is my baby's normal pattern changes, to go in to be checked. I have been in a few times with reduced movements. Not sure if you are from the UK but we have a charity here called count the kicks aimed at knowing your baby's movements and reporting any changes. Little movements may just be your little ones pattern

Thanks for the responses ladies. My last OB appt was just this past Thursday and OB said the same thing about there being less room. I just prefer to hear from other moms with first hand experiences. I feel better. And baby was just squirming after I ate supper so I'm sure all is well :)

I agree with Cattsmeow. While mine have remained active even in the final weeks, a decrease in movement is normal. It helps to have some juice or a snack cake, then lie down for about an hour and monitor movement.

Between 38 and 40 weeks in my previous pregnancies, I always noticed a decrease in baby movement. My doctor said it was because they were running out of room. It's good everything checks out at your appointments, though. If it gives you any comfort, you can always go in to be checked.
