Q: Is it safe to take Prilosec OTC?

In YOUR opinions would it be safe to take Prilosec OTC?
I've googled it a few times only to find very mixed answers. Last time I saw my OB she said Prevacid was safe. So of course I accidentally bought Prilosec....

My OB said Omeprazole which is the generic name is category B for pregnancy. Prilosec was category C. This makes no sense to me since I thought they were the same. Since Category B is better than C I would go with something that is called omeprazole over taking the brand name Prilosec. There must be something in the Prilosec that changed the category. I think if risks outweigh benefits don't take it. For me, esophageal cancer runs in the family so I am continuing to take it daily.

My last pregnancy I took prilosec the whole time every day because I have acid reflux even when not pregnant, I was told it was fine. This pregnancy I started taking it but a bunch of women on this fb page said you can't and I stopped for some reason. My Dr says its fine but I don't know, I'm taking zantac once a day and it hardly helps... not near as good as prilosec.

I was just at my ob yesterday and she actually told me it was safe to take prilosec OTC. I have been managing with Tums and almond milk and she volunteered the prilosec if those didn't seem to work anymore.
