Q: How long after losing your mucus plug did you go into labor?

Hey Ladies,

I have slowly been losing pieces of my mucus plug over the last week. At my last check up (36 weeks) I was 2 cm dilated. Today I lost what seems like the remaining mucus plug. It was a very large amount and it was tinged pink/brown. I am 37 weeks today.

I know that you can remain a few cm dilated for a few weeks before labor and that you can lose your mucus plug 2-3 weeks before labor so it isn't necessarily an imminent sign of labor. I am just curious what everyone's experience was. Did you go into labor shortly after losing your mucus plug or did you last a few more weeks?

I see my OB tomorrow for my 37 week check up, I am hoping they check my cervix again. I am so curious to see if there has been a change!

It varies from woman to woman. I should also point out that an ob once told me that it regrows. I learned this when u started to lose it at 22 weeks with my third.

Thanks for all the stories ladies!

Just for an update- I had a check up today and I have progressed from 2cm to 4 cm over the past week. My doctor said some women lose the plug in one big piece while other's (like me) lose it in pieces over a longer period of time. I have been having a lot of Braxton hicks contractions and they have helped me to dilate which doesn't surprise me because I swear it feels like baby is bouncing on my cervix. I am looking at being 4cm dilated already as a big head start! lol. She thinks I will go in the next week, possibly two! This baby doesn't want to wait for it's due date and that is ok with me! :)

About 2 weeks later. It regenerated about every two days and I continued to lose the plug and have bloody show. I was dilated to 5cm and 100% effaced when they sent me to L&D. The good news is they broke my water and I delivered within 90 minutes.

I lost my plug had bloody show & nothing. I had a scheduled induction & dint go into labour on my own. The induction was a week after losing my plug. Just because you loose it doesn't mean labour will come. Every body is different. It wasn't my first child either. Good luck :-)

For me, I went into labor the same day. I was 39w3d along. My plug was followed by bloody show though, and contractions were already starting. So I'd keep an eye out for those two things as well. Good luck!!!

with my 1st born, i lost the mucus plug the same day I went into labor. But I have read that others, it may not mean it's time yet. Just that you are dilated enough to knock it loose.

With all 3 I lost it the same day. I would go for a good walk.

I lost mine a few times but unfortunately the thing about your mucus plug is is that it can grow back :(

With my first baby I lost my plug twice. Once at 29ish weeks, was tinged pink/brown, nothing else happened. Second time I lost it was 38w5d, had bright red streaks and I continued spotting red that whole day/night and had my baby the next afternoon =) I think if you have your bloody show it's more a sign that labor is near
