Q: Doctor didnt prescribe any prenatal vitamins?

So went for my first antenatal appointment two weeks ago, the doctor didnt prescribe any prenatals for me? Would it be advisable to go buy my own? If so which ones are best in your experience?

I am just over 4 weeks at the moment, and saw my Doctor late last week for all my blood work to get done. He tested my iron and vitamin D amount other things, and should get the results on Tuesday. He said in the mean time just take folic acid, and keep eating as per usual and doing what I normally do. He did suggest any other prenantal vitamins etc.

By prescribe I meant suggest one to take or even folic acid? I was just shocked I walked in and he said I need not worry just eat healthy. With DS it was 2011 so I dont quite remember what happened but I had folic acid pills given to me. Anyway as soon as the paycheck comes, i'll be off to the pharmacy. BTW even though Im 6weeks 4days pregnant, morning sickness still hasnt showed. Praying it stays away! Thanks everyone!

My doctor let me continue taking otc prenatals until my bloodwork came back and showed I was anemic. So it depends. The otc vitamins have what most pregnant women need, so in the mean time, take them. If you have trouble with pills, eat the gummies. Good luck :)

Doctors don't typically prescribe prenatals. There's hundreads if different kinds. Is your stomach easily upset? If so try a gummy prenatal first and if that doesn't work out for you try the pill form.

I read a lot of wonderful things about the Rainbow Lite Prenatals. I have IC so it's very difficult for me to take a multivitamin without flares but the Rainbow Lite has been working wonderfully so far. As a added bonus I don't throw it up nearly as often as the multivitamin I was taking previously.

I thought it was odd at my 1st prenatal visit too but my Dr. said the one a day over the counter ones r just as good if my stomach is handling them so there is no need for prescriptions unless I wanted them. I have been taking One A Day prenatal from the start :)

I can only handle the gummy ones as well because otherwise I'm (TMI) constipated beyond belief. I would definitely start taking some though.

I would also recommend getting some on your own. I have only been able to really handle the gummy ones, because they do not contain iron. I had trouble swallowing the pills with morning sickness.
