Q: Way TMI but bowel incontinence after birth?!?!

So I had my baby 5 days ago and I finally had my first bowel movement after birth a few days ago. Well this morning I really had to go number two and both times I almost didn't make it to the bathroom. It's horrible to say and even think about, I know it's from everything being kind of numb down there still.

Has anyone else dealt with this and will it go away?

I luckily didn't experience this, but my mother did! She said, matter-of-fact-ly, "Well your body did just stretch to push a watermelon out of a small lemon, so you should expect some muscle weakness!" After 3 children, and now being 60, she sais she only has occasional leaks of urine when she laughs too hard or sneezes, but that everything does heal, just give it time!
Talk to your dr at your next appt, and I'm sure he will tell you when you should be feeling better, or when it might be more.
Best of luck to you! Try not to worry too much!

If you took stool softeners/laxatives after your baby was born, it could just be your body re-regulating itself. Sometimes when your body becomes constipated, it then overcompensates. Also, if it happens after certain foods, you may have a temporary food intolerance (like milk) as your hormones regulate. I always become lactose intolerant for about a month during my 1st trimester but then it resolves. It is also possible you picked up a minor virus.

All of those things will resolve in time. If it becomes problematic or you have other symptoms, definitely contact your doc.
