Q: How soon should I go to the hospital?

With my first I was induced at 41 weeks. With my second I was checked due to leaking after 2 days and I stayed due to ruptured membranes, which ended up being a slow leak. With my third I was 2 days over and we decided to BD since we heard that helps with labor. Right after we finished up I had a few contractions and a huge gush. We got dressed and headed right over to the hospital. This time I would like to stay home a little bit longer. We live about 10 minutes from the hospital and I just dislike being there and waiting. I deliver naturally so I would like to see if maybe the contractions would be more manageable at home. This is my 4th so I'm afraid things might go a little faster. My last labor and delivery was a total of 5 hours once we got to the hospital. Do you think it's safe to wait it out a little at home or should I head right over?

I plan to labor at home awhile as well and head in once we start hitting hard active labor. My last delivery was 5 hours from first contraction to delivery. I think we will go in once I can no longer talk through them. I'm about 30 minutes from my main hospital but only 5 from the smaller one.

Would your OB be open enough to that idea that he/she would give you an ideal time by which to be at the hospital? Like you, I hope to do a fair bit of laboring from home, but live over an hour from my hospital, so it may be a bit of Russian Roulette for me. I'm a slow laborer, though, historically speaking. Given you have labored more quickly, I'd put in a call to the OB and get a professional opinion. You've given me a great idea for questions to ask at my ob appointment. All that said, congrats and good luck!!

My plan (though I have yet to have one of those go accordingly...) is to wait until my contractions are 5 minutes apart (I live 45 minutes from my chosen hospital). I may leave earlier because my husband says he is going to eat before we go in because there was little chance to last time but not check in before that five minute mark. If there's no sign of complications then there's no reason to rush.

I labor fast as well. My longest is 5 hrs and 57 mins. My shortest is 4 hrs 19 mins. Im pregnant with my 4th so I am very curious as to how it is going to go.

I think it is safe to wait until your contractions are about 4-5 mins apart.
