Q: Seriously confused. Numbers still going up after being told I've miscarried?

I'm not 100% sure how far along I could be, since I think I ovulated late, but it has been 5 weeks & 6 days since lmp. I started spotting on Friday. I've been actually bleeding since Saturday (It's now Wednesday) with mild cramps and clots present. After multiple trips to the ER and doctors, my numbers have been 35 (Friday morning), 52 (Friday night), 135 (Sunday night), and 219 (Tuesday afternoon). We never could see anything on ultrasound at any of those appointments. I went to the OB and ended up seeing a midwife yesterday (Tuesday) and she said due to the amount of blood and the cramping she thinks I have miscarried. She called me this morning to say my hcg has gone up to 219 now. I don't know what to think. I was under the impression that numbers drop quickly after mc. I haven't told anyone because my entire family is grieving over my miscarriage and I don't want to get their hopes up again in case this is just some kind of fluke. Can anybody help me out here? I am losing my m

It could also be vanishing twin syndrome. This could be the reason for the bleeding, if you miscarried one of the twins and the other is still viable. Often there is a drop in HCG and then a rise again. I agree that you should rule out ectopic, as it seems that your HCG should be higher based on your lmp.

I agree that, if they haven't checked your tubes for an ectopic, it would probably be a good idea to do so. Will you be repeating the bloodwork? The thing of concern that I see is that your Sunday to Tuesday number didn't quite double. I really hope the best for you in this and am sorry that you're experiencing such an emotional roller coaster.
