Q: First pregnancy and UTI with resistance to meds

I'm just a little over 4weeks pregnant with my first. I have a severe Urinary tract infection, I am on one medication they found I could take. I'm Resistant to all of the rest I'm able to take while pregnant. Has anyone had this problem? What happens if this antibiotic won't work. It doesn't seem to be. My doctor couldn't seem to tell me what would happen. I'm waiting for my culture and sensitivity to come back to find out for sure if I'm resistant to the current medication I'm on.

Furadantin (nitrofurantoin) I believe has no resistance problem and is quite safe in pregnancy
