Q: Can leaning forward cause any damage to baby?

I know this is a bit of a dumb question, so please bear with me! ;) I'm almost 20 weeks and sometimes when I sit on the sofa I have to lean forward to get something from the coffee table. I find this leaning forward movement quite uncomfortable and I often feel like I'm squashing the baby.

Is there any movement or position I should be careful with, or am I just being stupid? I'm presuming that our bodies are designed to cope with a wide range of movements, but can't help being a bit paranoid! ;)

I never went to sleep on my back but I had to switch to my back in the morning due to my carpal tunnel. So, don't worry if you have to do it once and a while.

Thank you ladies! :) So glad it's not just me! I think you're right...it's probably more a question of my discomfort than a problem for the baby. I think I'll just listen to my body and stick to positions/movements that I'm most comfortable with (minus the sleeping on back thing....oh, how I wish I could sleep on my back again! I miss it so much!! lol )

In some situations like placenta previa, bending at the waist can be problematic, but for the most part, your baby is well cushioned and safe from being squashed. Of course, the bigger the baby gets, the more YOU feel squished and squashed, so you'll naturally gravitate toward positions that keep you opened up and stretched.

It's not a stupid question! I felt like that often about certain positions I would be in, especially how I sat at work (because the desk usually hit me awkwardly right where my bump was). I think you'll find the position is uncomfortable for you but baby is totally fine. The only thing that really isn't advisable is sleeping on your stomach and back.
