Q: Has anybody developed high blood pressure during pregnancy?

I am 9w4d pregnant. A little over two weeks ago, I was in the ER because my ob was concerned about an ectopic or appendicitis based on the symptoms I was having. All was well with the baby but my blood pressure was 145/90. I had my first ob appointment last week and my BP was 136/90.

My blood pressure has always been normal, including both times I've seen my doctor this year, but I go back for a BP check tomorrow and she's talking about putting me on BP medication if it is high again.

Has anybody developed HBP in early pregnancy? Reading all of the potential complications that can occur with it have me terrified. I was already worried about my age 34, turning 35 two weeks after my due date) and gestational diabetes because I had it with my first pregnancy. Now I'm worrying about this too and not sure if there is anything I can do to help it.

I had high blood pressure before becoming pregnant and was on medication. The medication should really help if it continues to be high. If you do have to take medication, dont worry if it isn't 100% effective at first as sometimes dosages and even the specific type of medication will have to be fine tuned. I actually came off the medicine in the 2nd trimester because blood pressure can naturally lower itself during pregnancy. I did have to go back on medication after delivery though. As long as you are being monitored and treated, the high blood pressure shouldn't be too much of an issue, if any at all. In my experience, doctors are very good about monitoring high BP and take it very seriously.
