Q: 11 weeks- fetal heartrate

Hey all! I am just over 11 weeks and still can not find the babies heart beat on my fetal monitor. I am not exactly skinny (I'd say size 14-16) I saw the heartbeat on ultrasound and the baby was growing just fine with a heart rate at 166. I have my 12 weeks appt on Monday and I am a little nervous since I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks last February.

I'm a very big girl and just heard the heart beat with ultrasound at the clinic at 16w1d. I did manage to find it with my stethoscope about a week prior to that, but I have an extremely expensive electric stethoscope (I'm a critical care nurse) and I have to turn the volume all the way up and literally listen underneath all the other sounds in my belly. I don't think anyone with an untrained ear would be able to hear it...my husband can't, even when it's crystal clear to me.

I'm 16 weeks and a bigger girl, and I still can't consistently find baby's heartbeat. If I search long enough, I can usually hear at least muffled sounds, but she frequently moves away from the doppler.

All the Doppler does is cause unneeded stress and worry. You should stop using it until you're at least 14-15 weeks. It'll be easier to find baby and heart rate then.

My midwife couldn't find my girl's heartbeat on Doppler until I was safely into my second trimester. It's normal.
