Q: Any cloth diaper enthusiasts on here??

For various reasons, we have decided to predominantly cloth diaper our future child. Unfortunately, in my immediate surroundings this is practically unheard of and I'm getting a lot of negativity from a number of people (mum, mum-in-law, friends, acquaintances...), that it's a stupid idea, and a waste of my time and money. I know for a fact that this is not true, and while I appreciate and understand that it's not for everybody, it still hurts my feelings that people can't be more supportive! :(

Did anyone experience this and if so, how did you handle swimming against this tide?

Thank you so much!! :)) I never thought of it that way! I guess it must be similar to why meat eaters get annoyed with vegans/vegetarians and think that they are smug and self-righteous. LOL I'll definitely bear that in mind, the next time I start raving about the virtues and pros of cloth diapering to a friend!

On a positive note....luckily my hubby is 100% percent behind me! So at least I'm not swimming alone! ;)

Parenthood will often mean swimming against the tide. What I've learned is that other moms will often take your choices personally as though they are some kind of commentary on the choices they made. In other words, they feel as though your decision to CD makes a statement that you judge their decision to use disposables. These sorts of disputes are prevalent in so many areas: breast or bottle; work or stay at home; cry it out or not; schedules or spontaneity; etc. The list goes on and on. The only real solution is learn to shake it off. I don't think there is a cure for unsolicited opinions.
