Q: Is it early labor or just BH?

Monday maternal fetal medicine did a stretch and sweep. I was completely closed and yes it was the most painful experience ever but was stretched to 1 1/2cm then had cramping and irregular contractions which tapered off but came back before my 1pm OB visit which while using the bathroom to give urine my mucus plug fell out but my OB refused to do another sweep and his reasoning was I was barely 1cm dilated which I know isn't true he just wants me to cave in and get a csection. But since my appt I've had strong/ painful contractions that get close together then spread out again then get closer. I'm annoyed and cranky and just want to know if it's early labor or if it's Braxton hicks. Has anyone else had this happen?

I've actually never heard of someone getting a stretch and sweep twice in the same day...that doesn't seem like a very good idea to me, at all (could seriously increase the risk for infection). As for only being 1cm after you were stretched to 1.5cm, that doesn't seem all that unusual either...women can go forward and backward in terms of dilation and what all is going on at the moment. I agree with lilsunshine22...if your contractions are regular and becoming more frequent, I'd call the hospital and see if they want you to come in to get checked. If they're sporadic, I'd wait until they're more regular.

If the contractions do not go away from walking around and they are getting closer together then you may want to go to the hospital. Good luck!
