Q: Group B Strep

Anyone else been positive for Group B Strep? How did this change your delivery? I just found out I am positive and am looking for advice.

Didn't change much. I had a hep lock by my midwife, baby came too fast for me to even get one round in, baby was fine and we left 30 hrs afterwards

I did find the lock a bit painful , but once contractions started I 100% forgot that it was there

It shouldn't interfere with your birth plan at all. You'll get IV antibiotics during labor, but that's it. It's seriously no big deal unless you have the baby without the antibiotics.

In my hospital, it's standard that you have to stay at least two nights if you test positive.

I had it with my first pregnancy and I'll find out on Monday if I have it with this pregnancy too. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I just had to get IV antibiotics once labor started. My midwife wanted to make sure I had time to get at least 1 round before giving birth and I was able to get 2 rounds. In between doses, I didn't have to be hooked up to the IV, they just put a hep lock on. It wasn't bad at all, and this time I'm not even worried about whether I test positive or not. It didn't interfere with my plans at all. I think I did have to lay in bed while it was being administered, but other than that I was still free to walk around, use the tub/shower etc.

I was positive but I had a c-section so I didn't need any treatment for it. From what I understand, they just give you antibiotics around delivery so it doesn't pass to baby. You'd only need it for a vaginal birth and if for some reason you need a c-section, you won't have to worry about it.
