Q: Tailbone Pain

Im 14 weeks and 4 days pregnant. Since Friday evening I started getting this pain in my tailbone, more to the left. It has been on and off since but very painful. Hurts when i make any sudden movements, when walking, etc.

Has anyone else gone through this? If you have what did you do for the pain?

Yup, got that with my first so bad I ended up using a wheelchair if we were out cause my legs would start to give out. Even getting out of bed. For me it was sciatic. Sounds like what you have. Starts at very lower back and would bother one side and shoot down that leg.

It sounds normal to me. As you go through pregnancy your hormones soften ligaments and tendons in order to get ready for birth. Your pelvis is actually held together by connective tissue in the front and back. When it starts to loosen it can cause you pain because your bones aren't as stable as they once were.

Be careful not to twist your body or lift something with one foot in front of the other. Even something as simple as pushing a vacuum can make it worse if you aren't careful. I remember one time I got up from a picnic table and the twisting motion you do when you swing your legs out caused me significant pain for a few days. I used a heating pad after talking to my doctor and that helped.

As always, mention it to your doctor. And if it gets unbearable let your doctor know, sometimes it progresses to a state where they will recommend physical therapy
