Q: Recommendations for moisturizing eczema-prone skin?

Our one year old daughter's skin is really prone to eczema and dryness in general. The poor girl scratches and scratches and has all these awful marks everywhere. We've tried aquaphor, cocoa butter, coconut oil, oatmeal baths... She has prescription ointment for the actual eczema breakouts (hydrocortisone and something stronger) but looking for recommendations on what to use when it isn't an actual eczema breakout, but just overall dry skin. Hoping to find something that will keep her skin dry so it doesn't feel irritating to her and cause her to scratch so much. Thanks!!

I second the Aveeno. We use the eczema lotion and it was the only thing that helped my daughter. Also, cutting out wheat seemed to also help. She has occasional flareups, but it is so much better than it was.

Also, my youngest son had it bad like that. I thought he'd have scars on his cheeks from all of the scratching when he was a baby. He has no marks now and people can't even tell he has eczema now.

I use cetaphil bath wash and lotion. Both my kids and infantile eczema. I say infantile because i do a night cetaphil treatment and it keeps it helps A LOT. My oldests eczema left by age two. My youngest is almost 2 and his is almost gone. It's only on his stomach ans it was all over his body including his face neck and scalp. I tried aveeno baby, eucerine and others but nothing worked like cetaphil.

My 9 month old has had eczema since she was a few months old. We tried a few different things and finally settled on Aveno body wash and lotion. Aveno makes a specific body wash and moisturizing lotion for eczema. We use the body wash and then we lotion her up every night before bed and it really seems to help her. It isn't 100%, she still has some spots but they aren't as red/rough and they don't seem to itch or bother her. I have been happy with how moisturized it keeps her skin. I can't guarantee it will work for your little one, it seems that each kid needs something different. But if you haven't tried it, it might be worth a try.

Sorry, this is my last comment :).... When it was really bad, i did the cetaphil lotion twice a day....once mid-day and againt after his bath. I worked it child care and recommendated this to a parents whose one year old had eczema so bad his hands were bleeding. The next week she thanked me for recommendating it because it was already working.

My two year old has had eczema since he was born! We used all hypoallergenic lotions, soaps, and anything else that came with a hypoallergenic label. We also switched to the aveeno, and used eczema lotions. It cleared up right away. Today he hardly ever has an eczema problem.

Thank you both! I also got a message from Dakota about Aveeno as well, so that's three votes for Aveeno! I ran over to Target to pick some up and am going to try it tonight. I debated about buying it last time I was at the store, but just wasn't sure if a lotion would moisturize for long enough, but it sounds like you've all had good luck. Fingers crossed!!

Honestly I use cold pressed coconut oil, you can get it in the cooking aisle. It's good for helping tighten skin lighten scars and stretch marks and moisture problems. It smells great and has so many health benefits to it. Being natural is a huge plus! Give it a shot hope it works for you. It's cheap and last a long time
