Q: Adult disposable underpants for postpartum bleeding.

Hello mama's and soon to-be mama's! I am due early this October and have been reading about preparation for after baby's birth. It seems most women prefer disposable adult diapers to deal with postpartum bleeding to avoid damaging underwear and prevent leakage. Now my question is what product/brand did you or are you planning on using?

Thank you all for your invaluable input!

I ended up purchasing a brand new pack of Tena Disposable Adult Diapers from Kijiji for $10 thinking "why not"! The seller lived literally a 5 min walk from my home and you cannot beat that price. I've also purchased online from Amazon Always Overnight Flexi Wings (purple wrapper). I am slowly getting prepared! I know what is left on my list are other essential items and will continue to collect those items over the next few days.

I totally used disposable underwear/adult diapers and they are AMAZING. I plan to do it again. I wasn't planning to with my first, but after trying on that uncomfortable pad with the underwear, I was so concerned about it staying in place. That being said, I can't remember the brand I used.. I think they were Tena...

Everybody experiences different levels of bleeding. I hardly bled at all. So have a couple different options ready to go. I brought some depends silhouette but didn't use them. Within a couple hours of giving birth I had switched to regular underwear and an ultrathin with wings overnight pad. By the next day I was using regular absorbency pads with wings. I hated the mesh underwear and bulky pads at the hospital that everyone else just "loved" and I was glad I brought my own.

My heaviest bleeding was in the hospital and I used the mesh undies with a pad (what the hospital provided). When I got home, I just used regular underwear (not my good pairs obviously) with a ultra absorbent pad (Always brand). My bleeding was like a medium flow period but would get heavy if I did too much or right after trying to pump or breastfeed (it makes the uterus contract). I was done bleeding by 5 weeks postpartum and the last couple weeks was a mix between a light flow to spotting.

I used the always extra heavy pads (purple color wrapper) in the beginning when i was home (after using the humongous ones at the hospital that were like puppy pad size). I then just kept stepping down in size as the weeks went by. I had stopped completely by 3 weeks pp. I didn't have any problems with leaking either, although getting up every 2-3 hours helped with that.

I can't give you a brand of the underwear because I used the mesh panties they gave me at the hospital along with overnight pads. Those mesh panties are actually pretty comfortable! However, I can give you the pads I used. The brand of pads I used were the always infinity brand (either the flex foam of the radiant kind). They are SUPER thin but hold a LOT. They are the pads I use for my normal period and I love them. I didn't have any issues with leaking using the overnight size.

I never thought about using adult diapers. I would be interested to hear if anyone used them and what they thought.

Some women were doubling up their bulky/overnight pads with mesh or disposable underwear making me feel that wearing an adult diaper would provide a comfortable sleep without worry of leakage. I am happy for your input blondeone12, thank you!

I am still hoping to have input on which brand of adult diaper worked best for some and also what type of overnight pad is the best choice. What brand and absorbency of overnight pad did you use? I am getting set to pack my bag and would like to stock up on the items I require now while I have the time.

I did not use disposable underpants, however for the first week after I got out of the hospital, i was using the mesh underwear that they gave me in the hospital. They sent me home with quite a few of those, and quite a few of the very large pads. I found the mesh underwear comfortable enough, wouldn't call anything comfortable with a huge pad. Just realize that you should be changing that pad every 2-3 hours max (at least that was my doctors recommendation). By the end of the first week home though, i was in normal overnight pads and regular underwear, which helped me feel more back to normal. Good luck. Hope this helps.
