Q: Still a chance for multiples?

We had our first US at 6weeks; they saw one sac and confirmed one baby. I went to my appointment Wed and they were able to heart the FHR on the doppler; they let me record it. For the first 15 sec there is the steady rhythmic beat and than the last 5 sec it sounds like a horse galloping over the steady rhythm. Almost like there are 2? The doc didn't say anything other than FHR was 152bpm. We have more routine bloodwork but another HCG quantative. I have the video but can't find a way to upload it on here :( Any ladies have any ideas...twins run in my spouses side, I've had dreams of twins, my spouses boss has said it. My symptoms are increased.

With my twins, we could definitely tell there were 2 at my 6 week ultrasound. With the doppler, we could hear 2 distinct beats although it took much longer to find both. We didn't use a doppler until maybe 16 or so weeks and I remember how many weird sounds we heard.

The placenta also makes what sounds like a slower version of a heartbeat, I would think the doctor would have picked up on it, but you never know!

its possible it was your heartbeat echoing around as well, the ultrasound machine and Doppler's are built to pick up the sounds of heartbeats so will pick yours up too :) would be exciting to see two bubs next scan though :)
Good Luck with everything :)

I would say it's not very likely. I only have one in there and I've heard the heartbeat both ways - I think it's more to do with where the doppler is placed in relation to the heart. Ultrasounds are fairly accurate for multiples. Also, multiples running in your spouses fam doesn't increase your chances of having multiples - it's usually more likely if the women on your side have had multiples (more than 1 egg releasing at a time) Enjoy your pregnancy :)
