Hi everyone,
Your concern is quite relatable. A lot of woman feel the same before consuming anything but the natural fruits and vegetables during their pregnancy months. Although, over thinking is never recommended, but still having a thorough information on these subjects can sure be helpful. Caffiene such as tea or coffee are not yet claimed to be harmful for your pregnancy, but no one wants to hurt their baby, so be thoughtful on the limit of your drink. You don't have to drink an entire galoon of coffee and ecpect a healthy baby. Instead drink as much water as you can, probably even more to keep yourself hydrated and your baby, too. Nothinv is better than drinking water. The more water you drink, the better your baby will be. As he is floating inside a water bubble, it will only get clean after enough intake of water through your body. If you are a caffiene lover, you can drink 4-5 cups a week, but not beyond that, the risk is too much for a cup of coffee.

I haven't been drinking any tea or coffee. Just the odd hot chocolate. I would imagine the odd cup of tea isn't terrible, but remember that it is not hydrating; you will need additional water to compensate.

I was told by my doctor that one cup a day is okay. I dont drink coffee that often unless I am extremely exhausted.

Most things I too have read have said limit caffeine to 200 mg per day (which is an arbitrary figure based on animal studies), however literature that I got from my OB just said that while caffeine is safe during pregnancy like anything you want to consume it in moderation. I was an avid coffee and tea drinker before pregnancy and consumed a lot of caffeine. I am not someone who has a sensitivity to caffeine what so ever, and while I do not track the amount of caffeine I consume I try to be thoughtful of how much I am ingesting by limiting my coffee to 1 or 2 cups a day and supplementing my tea intake with water and non caffeinated beverages when I can.

I try to stay under 200 mg a day. Cans of caffeinated soda are around 50 mg each. Cups of coffee are around 100mg each, unless it's Starbucks coffee, which is closer to 200mg per serving. Good luck!
