Q: Progesterone Q's?

Hello, I am 4 w 3 d pg. I have been tracking my cycle for a while and with the help of my midwife discovered I have low progesterone, hypothyroid & a short luteal phase. So with the new thyroid meds & 100mg prog. cream. I finally had a normal cycle. The next month I conceived! :-) So last Monday after I found out I pg I made an appt w/ my old family Dr. She did blood tests on Monday & Wednesday and confirmed that my hcg #'s are almost tripling. (yay!) The concern I have is that I asked her about my progesterone and she said she doesn't really know anything about that. And my midwife is on vacation. So my questions is, how much progesterone should I be taking to prevent a miscarriage? (I had one years ago). Also should I be getting my progesterone checked? Its frustrating that my MD has no clue about this and my ND is on vacation. Arg! Anyone have any knowledge on this?! I'm so paranoid about loosing this lil' blessing!

Thanks!
Nicole

Well I just reread what I said and I didn't mean "midwife", I meant my "Naturopathic Doctor". I've been so sleepy these days! ;-) I haven't been to the OB/Gyn clinic yet, just my old Family Dr, who apparently doesn't have any knowledge on progesterone. And I agree, I won't probably see her again. My primary Dr, who is my ND, is back in town Monday. So the receptionist made an appt for me Monday morning. I got an email from my ND saying to stay on my normal dose of 100 mg of prog. and then we'll recheck along with the hcg then. Ahhhh.... now to just be patient and wait. I thought that the 2ww was hard. Hopefully once I get to the 2nd Trimester all this worrying will subside. :-)

What doss of Prog. were you on? I realize its probably totally different for everyone, just curious.

OHHH!!! You need to get a new Family Practitioner, STAT!! Isn't there another midwife in your OB/Gyn office that sees patients when your midwife is out?? Seems extremely inefficient, unethical and scary that you're left to it while so vulnerable!!

I had my thyroid removed in 03 and have endometriosis. I, like you, had trouble conceiving but hold hope!!! We've got a total of 7 years ttc but are on our third and final pregnancy and did, sadly, have three losses. But progesterone became my very best friend as well! I think your levels SHOULD be checked but since they got you "normal" prior to pregnancy, you should feel a little safer. Hang in there!! Stay positive and rest. Congratulations as well!!! Just get a new doc, quick!
