Q: Is there hope for a "threatened miscarriage" diagnosis?

I am 6 weeks pregnant. Since the time my husband and I got our positive home pregnancy test, we were nervous to have sex. We finally did and afterwards, I started bleeding. At first it wasn't much, but the next day it continued and bled more. I called my dr and she had me come in. She did an ultrasound and we saw the heartbeat, but also gave me the diagnosis of a threatened miscarriage. I'm very early in my pregnancy, but I just have to know if anyone else has experienced a similar situation. Is there hope???

I totally understand how you're feeling and it's all normal and valid. I just wanted to reassure you a little that bleeding after sex is pretty common and usually no big deal. It's great that you heard the heartbeat! If everything looked OK when your doctor checked you then you're probably just fine.

As for the "threatened miscarriage" diagnosis: don't let it concern you too much. Any time there is bleeding in pregnancy that warrants a trip to the doctor it'll be termed a threatened miscarriage. Part of the labeling is so insurance will cover the ultrasound you had done as "medically necessary" and not as just an ultrasound done for fun that they don't have to cover. A threatened miscarriage doesn't mean you'll go on to have a miscarriage.

Hopefully everything works out just fine. If you doctor wasn't concerned try to let that reassure you.
