Q: Coping with induced labour - stories, experiences and strategies please?

I had an induction with my first baby and I am likely to accept another one this time round due to the nature of my pregnancy complications. Both this one and my last are unexplained IUGR. We are looking at week 39 again, however my midwife and I are prepared to negotiate with the obstetric team to go as far as 40+3 to try go on my own time since the risks of birthing towards and after 41 weeks increase at that point. Negotiation being in conjunction with consistent or increased interval growth only (if slows or becomes static then we will act sooner).

I had an epidural with my first induction and I'm keen to try do it without one. It was a hard induction last time and I'm prepared that it will be hard again.

Anyone have some good strategies for coping with induced labour if I don't go on my own?

I was induced with my 2nd and with my 3rd. Both rather fast labors and even my 3rd was induced and pain med free. I much rather not be induced but my doc and i are already discussing it if I dont to earlier than 39 weeks. Good luck.

My labors do not start on their own and I have been induced twice. One at 42 weeks, one at 41 weeks. I was lucky and had both babies in under 8 hours. The onset is so rough that if I knew it would be more than 5-6 hours I think I might opt for some pain management. As it was, I used a birthing ball and a lot of deep breathing. On the other hand, I do believe that having the extra pitocen in my system helped my body do a lot of the pushing. I had this great peanut-shaped pillow between my knees, on my side, and my contractions had the baby crowning without me really having to do anything. So that was an added benefit anyways.

Good luck!

I was induced with all 3 of my babies, my body doesn't seem to go into labour without drugs forcing it. Tbh, induced labour sucks ass! It's hard and only gets harder. U may be a lucky one who's ready to push a few hours after being induced, I wasn't. With my first, I had my mind made up to go drug-free, not knowing I would be slow to progress. I made it to 30hrs before caving and taking the epi, so I could sleep. An hour after my epi, it was time to push. I pushed for 2h46m and only got him out becuz of forcep assistance. I totally regretted holding off on the epi (and sleep), I was so exhausted from labour that I couldn't push out a poop if I had to. With the other 2, lesson learned, I took the epi after a cpl hrs of induction. They both ended in cs anyways. The only advice I can offer besides take the drugs, is to remain calm and relaxed, and focus on ur breathing. U won't get much down time between contractions so rest when u can.
Best of Luck! =))

Hi there
I was induced at 39 weeks with my 2nd son due to pregnancy induced hypertension. While it was quite a fast labour (2 hrs once contractions really started) it was pretty intense contractions wise. Unfortunately I had to have a wee clip on baby's head to monitor his heart rate and couldn't get in the birthing pool. With my first I spent time in the bath and found it really soothing and it helped lots with the contractions and being able to cope with the intensity as the labour progressed. It was a much longer labour with my first but both my mine were posterior so I had the back labour too.
I'm getting induced with this current baby at 38 or 39 weeks due to previous IUGR, pregnancy induced hypertension, my age and am going to read up on hypno birthing. I don't know much about it yet but a couple of friends told me about it so I'm interested in exploring it this time.
Also I'm interested in seeing what other strategies you are recommended.
Best of luck:)

*the risks associated with growth complications increase towards 41w
Had this not been the case i would have been willing to go right up to 42
