That's what I've been having, lots of pressure and contraction type pains. No mucous plug yet, and no bleeding, which I've
heard can happen after a sweep. I had a non stress test this morning and they confirmed that I am contracting, although nothing regular. This is my 4th baby and 38 weeks is the furthest I've ever gone. My OB says my cervix is really soft and dilating, so I had hoped this would work. My pubic bone is possibly separated and I'm super uncomfortable. :-(

If you're a first-time mum, active labour may take about eight hours. This is an average, though, and it could be much shorter or longer than that. It's unlikely to last more than 18 hours. Once your cervix has dilated to 10cm, it could take you an hour or two hours of pushing before your baby is born.
If you've had a baby before, your labour will probably be far quicker this time around. Active labour is likely to take about five hours, and is unlikely to last more than 12 hours. It may take up to an hour to push your baby out, but often only takes five minutes or 10 minutes.

I had it done with 2 of my children and it only worked with 1 it was about 2 days later after loads of pressure and discomfort

2-3 days later for me, but I got the sweep 4 days before my duedate... will not be doing it with my next pregnancy. It was more painful and longer labor then my first. I pushed my body to quickly to go into labor I think.

Congratulations! Questions about sweep are most oftenly asked, because every women is concerned about the level of pain the procedure might endure, or if it is safe for the baby or not. This is a totally legit concern. No mother woukd want to hurt her child in any way! Generally sweep is done with the femals who have started to contract within the 34-36 week of oregnancy. And generally baby never comes out at least a month later. And it can be painful because in thus case the oubic bone starts to separate, and dikates slowly. So i woukd suggest if your first sweep hasn't hekoed much, go fir the second one. Your doctor kniws better by the way, so you must consult him.

I had a sweep done with DD at 40wks, I was 1cm. I had some weak contractions that went nowhere and I lost most of my plug. They only did the one, I was induced 8 days later. With DS I had a sweep done at 39 wks, I was 2cm, had some contractions but they died off later that day. He did a second sweep at 40wks, still 2cm, I had some weak contractions for the day, they increased and timed at about 5 or so mins that evening. They were 2-3mins by 10pm, not overly painful, but not weak enough to sleep through. My water broke shortly after 11pm and I went to the hospital at 3am (cuz my water was turning red) and measured a whopping 3cm. Lol! For me, the sweep kinda worked. I don't really go into labour or dilate w/o hard drugs, so I'm probably not the best person to be replying. Didn't wanna read 'n' run! Maybe a second sweep will get things moving along?! I'd def ask for it.
