Q: Is A Long, Drawn-Out Miscarriage Normal?

I'm pretty certain I'm experiencing a miscarriage. TMI Warning: I've been spotting for weeks, but as of yesterday have begun bleeding a watery red discharge (same amount as a light period, but the discharge is more watery). Constant cramping that comes and goes in waves; mainly in my abdomen, but sometimes in my back. A sharp pain that is primarily localized to my left side (I've already been checked for ectopic, I'm good there). No major clots yet, but some super small "sand-like" clots. Anywho, all this has been going on since yesterday afternoon. It's not getting any better, but it's not getting any worse either. My prior miscarriage was a 12-hour ordeal with seriously heavy bleeding, massive clots, contraction-like pain, and then nothing for four weeks until I got my next period. So this long, drawn-out miscarriage is new. Should I be worried? Do I still have hope there's a baby in there and a cyst burst instead? Or did I just get lucky with my last miscarriage? Thank y

I'm about 6 weeks (based on best estimates, LMP puts me closer to 7 +). Betas have been going up, progesterone going down, and the last ultrasound only showed an empty sac (not even a yolk). So my doctor diagnosed it as a blighted ovum (which is a hell of a lot easier for me to take - the last miscarriage I had was at 8 + weeks and everything was hunky dory with a strong heartbeat and only slight spotting to worry me; until suddenly there was no heartbeat and a crap ton of bleeding). I have an ultrasound tomorrow to see what's what; but if they do find a baby in there I'll be devastated. Blighted ovum is clearly a problem with the egg (or sperm; or whatever). An egg that's developing along into a baby on the other hand... despite what the doctors say and what I know to be true; I can't help but feel that the baby would be fine if it was in someone else's body. I just want this to be over with so I can start to move forward. Oy.

Sorry you're going through that.... What does your Doctor say? How far along are you? Have you been getting beta checks? My Dr checked everything and continued to check my beta levels until he was sure it was a miscarriage.
