Q: Would you find a new Midwife or OB if this was you?

I experienced intense itching nearly 2 weeks ago that caused me to google "itchy hands in pregnancy," which led me to finding tons of info about Obstetric Cholestasis. I then moved my appointment up sooner than it was originally scheduled and requested a liver function test & a bile acid test. I did not feel that the midwife was even interested in my concerns in the least, in fact, she kept me so off track w/a million other unrelated questions that I forgot to even show her the painful scratch/bruise marks all over my thighs from the relentless intense itching I had just had a few days prior. The itching was of extreme intensity for about 3 days, worse at night, & has been mild ever since. It is mostly on my hands, feet, legs, arms, and scalp. I've had 5 successful pregnancies so I KNOW this is NOT normal pregnancy itching! I do give her credit for ordering the tests I requested the day I requested them.
Tues morning I finally got my test results and...

Thanks. I did message my previous midwife and she called me this morning (on a Saturday!) requesting to see my labs so I emailed them to her. Waiting to hear back what she thinks and will likely be making an appointment with them...that does mean I will have to have a hospital delivery but I'm ok with that vs being uncomfortable with my care provider entirely and delivering at the birth center. I've had 3 babies at the hospital I'll be going to anyway and they really are pretty great over all so I'll get over it lol.

I don't blame you I would be upset too. I hope you can switch to someone you like.

Exactly, she wouldn't have to lift a finger and I would feel so much better knowing whether or not to keep worrying about it. I think about it pretty often since it's every time I have an itch lol! Unfortunately it was wishful thinking about the poison ivy :( Just want to figure this out! I am honestly so pissed I don't think another interaction with her is the best idea! I'm highly considering switching providers and going back to my previous midwife's office and just having a hospital delivery. If it is OC I'll likely have to go to OB anyways, and I wouldn't be happy switching to OB at the current place we were planning to deliver...was supposed to be a MW assisted birth center birth, if I have to use a hospital it might as well be the one I prefer. At least my previous midwife's office always called about things like anemia, and sent prescriptions almost immediately, etc. They certainly never outright ignored any of my concerns. I'm pretty disgusted and SMH right now.

I would tell her it obviously isn't resolving so you want it retested now.

That would really upset me that she didn't even acknowledge most of your questions. And I have a lot of complaints about my doctor, but if I really want a test done or want something to be checked out she will do it just to put my mind at ease. What would be the harm in retesting?

HER RESPONSE: "Hi Lindsey, I dont feel a need to retest at this time. Your liver enzymes were normal and the bile acid level also within normal range. Sometimes the pregnancy hormones just cause some itching. I think it wise to monitor for now and see if it resolves."

I can't help but feel like I should maybe find another provider, I am literally shaking my head right now. Where are the answers to my questions and concerns here? I don't get it at all. What would you do? With my insurance I have pretty limited choices if I want to deliver at the birthing center we were planning to use, it's her or OB instead. Ugh. I may have to go back to my previous midwives and a regular hospital delivery :(

ME: Hello,Will we be retesting for Bile Acid level since it was at 10 and I am still itching? I have found conflicting information, that 10 to < 40 bile acid level is considered mild OC, or that >10 is, but I would certainly feel better with a retest since I am right on the verge, being at 10, either way, and when we tested I had only started itching 3 days prior (I know it can take some time for bile acid levels to rise after the onset of itching). If you agree we should retest, should I make a sooner/separate appointment than my next routine appointment (7/11) since it takes so long to get the results back? I also see that I may need to begin an iron supplement, if I have interpreted that correctly, looks like I have anemia again? If so, would you be willing to prescribe me an iron supplement? I am also concerned about my calcium levels and was wondering if there is a supplement you could recommend or prescribe for that as well. Fingers crossed my platelets don't keep descendin

...Edit that, it was Mon morning, because I never heard anything about any of my results so I decided to message her on Tues morning. Thursday afternoon I finally get a reply...still no phone call, and not much of a reply in my opinion! I will now post my message to her, then her response.
