Q: Is spotting in early pregnancy something to worry about?

Hello ladies, please help. I'm 5weeks 3 days and went in for first ultrasound today. Doc says he sees the gestational sac but nothing else. I've been having some brown spotting everyday for the last four days. He says he doesn't know if the baby is alive.... I mean, like, wth?!? He said the 6 week mark is when he'd see hear the heartbeat and see the fetus. I'm supposed to go back in 2 weeks' time. He has only put me on Vit B and Folic acid as well as an Endometrial Vaginal suppository. I'm going crazy because I don't know what to think....has anyone been in a similar situation? Thanks so much

What was the outcome, if you don't mind my asking? I had a chemical pregnancy a few months back, and I'm currently experiencing brown spotting.

Hi, I think you need to go back to your OBGYN and test for what could possibly be wrong. How is your HCG? try to also get a second opinion, those never hurt. you need to reassess this and figure out what is wrong asap and see if it can be corrected. Hope you have reported that you are experiencing bleeding? is this also after your folic acid? does it continue and with what frequency are the things that you need to consider. Please get a second opinion, as this is the safest choice and a better chance to see what is happening. if the other OBGYN also says the same, then you got to just wait it out. But be in constant touch with the doctor and update frequently on any or all symptoms you feel besides the bleeding.Make sure to tell your other doctor that you need their second opinion and fill them in on your pregnancy so far and what all tests you have. History is very important here. Get this sorted soon! good luck

Hi Giselle,
Spotting can be normal in pregnancy and not seeing the heartbeat at this stage you may be a little early. I think the guideline is anywhere from 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 weeks but that is just based on if your dates are correct. I think that waiting the additional time like your doctor recommended is the best. I went one week and saw just the sac a week later a heartbeat. One thing I do want to mention though, all of the times that I've had spotting during pregnancy not saying this is the same situation my progesterone level was low. Possibly ask if this can be tested when doing your initial blood work? Good Luck!
