4 weeks blank ultrasound

Category: General - Newly Pregnant

Im four weeks. I went in for an ultrasound yesterday. It didn't show anything, there was just a small black circle and they said they didn't see anything (this was at the ER due to severe abdominal and back pain). My HCG is 880.
What can this mean?
They said not to worry that it was probably too early but I have a bad feeling

Was it kind of like this? http://www.advancedfertility.com/ultraso1.htm

Also don't worry too much, ER docs don't spend a lot of time finding babies on ultrasound. They probably said "I can't see anything" because they meant they couldn't see the baby. At this stage, just the yolk sac should have been visible.

I used to work in the ER and a lot of times women would come to the ER wanting their pregnancy diagnosed and wanting to see the baby on the ultrasound, knowing in the ER they will definitely do one if they complain about pain enough.

I'm not saying your back pain and abdominal pain wasn't real! I am just saying that the ER doctor was probably used to this patient and being insensitive and unhelpful by not explaining what was on the scan.

Also, hcg levels...

3 weeks LMP means: 3 weeks since your last menstrual period

3 weeks LMP: 5 â?? 50 mIU/ml
4 weeks LMP: 5 â?? 426 mIU/ml
5 weeks LMP: 18 â?? 7,340 mIU/ml
6 weeks LMP: 1,080 â?? 56,500 mIU/ml
7 â?? 8 weeks LMP: 7, 650 â?? 229,000 mIU/ml
9 â?? 12 weeks LMP: 25,700 â?? 288,000 mIU/ml
13 â?? 16 weeks LMP: 13,300 â?? 254,000 mIU/ml
17 â?? 24 weeks LMP: 4,060 â?? 165,400 mIU/ml
25 â?? 40 weeks LMP: 3,640 â?? 117,000 mIU/ml
Non-pregnant females: <5.0 mIU/ml
Postmenopausal females: <9.5 mIU/ml

I think 880 is good, great even!

Thank you SO much for your reply. I feel better. So much better. I still have the pain, which is scary bc I've honestly never felt pain in that area. It seems to be getting "larger" as in in a bigger area now.
The ultrasound did look like that. The little circle, a couple times I swore I saw a second one.
Seriously, thank you SO much

You're welcome. If you're still having the pain you might want to call your OB, though.

A gestational sac won't be visible until your hcg reaches 10000-1500. I would go back in a couple weeks, then you will be able to see a HB. the black circle is probably the start of the gestational sac forming.

I also had an ultrasound at what I think to be 4weeks 0days...(I had been on Implanon for 6yrs with no periods and had it removed end of Feb. 12 and only one period for 3 days April 3rd so my dates don't mean anything)...nothing just a thick uterine lining. HCG on 5/9/12 came back 211...Repeat 5/13/12 1093!!! I have an ultrasound 5/17/12...Hope we see something!

Any updates?
