About Me
My name is Kaytie. I'm 18 years old and live in New Jersey. This is my first pregnancy. It was a surprise pregnancy discovered on June 28th, 2 days after my birthday. No morning sickness for me. :)
Nick and I are expecting our baby girl Savannah around February 14th. She is a very active baby.
Savannah is missing an umbilical vein called the ductus venosus which is supposed to take in some of the blood flow coming from the umbilical cord. Her not having this vein present makes her at risk for heart failure. I have a very high risk pregnancy.
However, Savannah has no sign of heart failure whatsoever. Her heart is enlarged, but no more than they would expect it to be given her condition.
Doctors are expecting a healthy full term pregnancy.
I had 2 ultrasounds a week monitoring her heart. They bumped it down to just 1 a week because her heart is doing so well.
Savannah will have to go to the NICU after she is born to be given meds to help her heart contract down to normal size and to be monitored. This is because the ductus venosus is an umbilical vein. All umbilical veins close when the cord is cut. This means Savannah will no longer be having all of the extra blood flow from the cord. Her heart will contract down to normal size because it will no longer have to accommodate for the extra blood flow. Doctors have assured me she will be okay, especially since her heart has done so well throughout my pregnancy.
I've had a very stressful pregnancy, but knowing my daughter is doing so well and being so closely watched every week and will be in a very great NICU after birth gives me a lot of peace.
Nick, myself, and the whole family can't wait to meet sweet baby Savannah. <3
