About Me
Mom is: 31 year old nonprofit development professionalDad is: 31 year old Ph.D. student in clinical psychology
We met at the age of 18 during college freshman orientation and we started dating when we were 19. Now we have been together for 12 years and happily married for 8 years. We always have so much fun together.
I've wanted children since we married at age 23, but it wasn't feasible because we were both graduate students. Even after I graduated with my MSW we had to deal with the demands of his Ph.D. program. The program was supposed to only take 4 years, but he had difficulty securing an internship, so 4 years became 7 years, all of which we spent treading the proverbial water in New Jersey. He was so stressed out, he just didn't feel ready for children. It felt like we were putting off the future indefinitely. It was really quite difficult.
When he finally secured a fantastic internship at University of Florida this Spring, we decided we were ready. Just one month later - within days of arriving to our new home in Florida - I was pregnant.
We did not expect it to happen this fast. In fact when I started feeling sick 6 weeks later, it didn't even occur to me that I might be pregnant. I had been hoping it would happen immediately but still when we learned the news, we were in shock! Even though I know, rationally, that getting pregnant and having babies is a thing that happens to women all of the time, throughout history, I still didn't really believe it was possible for me... until it happened.
