Lyla Rose Myers's Birth Story

After nearly 3 weeks of contractions, I had only dilated between 2 1/4 cm and 2 1/2 cm. I was induced on January 27th at 4 am. At 7 am my doctor broke my water and I thought we were making progress. At around 12 pm, the doctor told me that I had only dilated to 3 cm. They thought that her head was too big to fit through my pelvis. I was told that I could try until my doctor came back, then we would have to discuss our options. Around 230 pm, I was only 3 1/2 cm dilated so I was told that I would have to decide if I wanted to do a C-section or not but the doctor had serious doubts that the baby would be born naturally based on the circumstances. I asked for a few more hours to try because a natural birth was all that I wanted. Around 3 pm, I realized that I would not be able to give birth the way that I wanted to and called the doctor back to do a C-section. I intended to at least stay awake for the C-section but I was told that my platelets were too low and that I would have to be under general anesthesia. They took me back around 430 pm to prepare me for surgery. At 445 pm, they started the anesthesia. At 454 pm, my baby was born. They almost immediately handed her over to my husband who was shocked at how beautiful she was. When I came to about an hour later, I had the same reaction. She was nothing like I expected, even though we had the 3D ultrasound done. It was a life changing experience to say the least.
