Cholestasis Lab Work Update
By 38Kate » Posted Jun. 16, 2016 8:51am - 567 views - 3 comments

So my labs came back. I can view them online with LabCorp. I called my high risk doc the day before yesterday because the lab noted they sent they sent the results to her... doc said they haven't received them. LabCorp makes patients wait two days before being able to view their own labs so the doctors have a chance to tell you what's what first. Personally that really irritates me. Am I too stupid to look at my own lab results? Anyway, my bile acid level was 18 and my ALT was 44. The ALT was considered too high and the normal reference range given on the labwork was not specific to women in their third trimester. So I'm waiting on the doctors input but I'm pretty sure this means I'm going to monitored for Cholestasis.

It turns out that LabCorp used the wrong reference ranges for my blood work. They didn't use the ranges for pregnant women. I have called my high risk doctor and they haven't called me back. I have left a message with my midwife, trying to let her know that the tests she didn't want to send me for came back if she wanted to see them. These last couple of months have been pretty frustrating.

Hi ericalee, thank you so much for taking the time to share the range with me. I had actually found that page yesterday and am obviously concerned that the ALT is out of range by so much. I have also seen that that many women have a MUCH higher ALT. I also noticed that the bile acid level standard range <10 is considered normal. Mine being at 18.3 (even though the lab says that's in range) is of concern to me as well. I may just swing by doctors office and drop off a copy of the results. I am so concerned.

I hope you hear from your doc soon! This reference range may help as it shows the various trimesters for ALT. http://perinatology.com/Reference/Reference%20Ranges/ALT,SGPT.htm
