Breast Feeding and Bottle Feeding
By lrivera0927 » Posted Jul. 15, 2016 9:40am - 669 views - 3 comments

I am a first time mom and I know and understand how better it is to breast feed your baby. I want to try it but I also plan on going back to work after my maternity leave is over. I am stuck between breast feeding and bottle feeding because I have been told it is hard to get the baby to take the bottle when you have been breast feeding.

I need to figure out a way to try and get my baby to do both.

I have about 5 months to figure it out.

I would look into the medela special breastfeeding nipples for their bottles. They make it so that the baby has to have suction to get anything out. I had a latch issue at first that wasn't corrected until day 5, so we had to give a bottle to start. and by the time the latch was corrected, he was used to the free flow of the bottle and not having to work as hard. Just something to think about if you do bottle early on before breastfeeding is established. Something i wish i had know about.

There are tons of products now to help babies transition from breastfeeding to bottle feeding. It does help to start as soon as possible with breastfeeding and getting baby used to it. But also be prepared that all kinds of things could happen and be prepared to have a backup plan. I made plans to breastfeed my twins and never looked into formula. I had a lot of breastfeeding issues (low supply mainly) and remember scrambling when we got home from the hospital because I didn't have any bottles or supplies ready.

You will need to establish a good breast feeding routine then in my case it was trial and error to find a teat she was happy with it took around 6 weeks for get to be happy to switch between both. I then sent frozen breast milk for the day and expressed at work so as not to dry up. Hope this helps. X
