Genetic/Gender Results are in!
By MalPal85 » Posted Feb. 5, 2019 4:37pm - 899 views - 3 comments

I still cannot get over how much technology has advanced since we had Colton in December 2015! We got the genetic/gender results back in a VERY timely fashion, a week and one day after I got the blood drawn.

The Trisomy 13, Trisomy 18, Trisomy 21 and the Microdeletoins? all were negative. The Cystic Fibrosis and Spinal Muscular Atrophy all came back negative as well.

The only piece of the test I really do not understand is the fetal fraction. It is 8.2% but I have no idea what that means. It says "Fetal fraction is one component of the algorithm used and is combined with other quality metrics to determine the aneuploidy screening result" but that is gibberish to me.

The test also told us we are having another boy!!!! My husband kind of had an inkling about it but I honestly wasn't sure. I'm definitely having the same kind of symptoms as I did with Colton. My husband was convinced it was a boy because the 6 week heart rates were the same for both (not sure if this really means anything but he thought it did). Pretty excited that we already have all of the clothes, haha.

12 week ultrasound is Monday. After that, I will start announcing it to more people!

Congrats on your boy!!! Yes, ericalee is right, if the fetal fraction was "off," too high or too low, you'd need to re-test. I vaguely remember this from last year ha! But since you've got the results, no need to give it a second thought. Congrats again!!

Yay congrats!!!! I believe the fetal fraction is the % of the genetic material in the sample that belongs to the baby. They need to have a certain % in order to accurately get the rest of your results. Sometimes they don't get enough and then they make you retest. At least that is how I believe it works. Glad to hear you have a healthy little babe on board! And agreed... having all the clothes is such a relief!!
