Ugh- Gestational Diabetes.

Went for my diabetes test on Sunday morning. They sent me for the 2 hour right away because of my history with preeclampsia and my age *insert eyeroll*. I checked my results online and saw that my pre drink number was high and so was my 1hr blood. My 2hr blood was normal. So, I knew I’d be expecting the phone call from the clinic either Monday or Tuesday. Got the call first thing this morning. They’ve referred me to the local diabetes clinic so now I wait for an appt there. From what I understand, I will have to follow a diet plan and test my blood 6 times a day. If diet can’t control my levels I will put onto insulin. A little bit of a blow for my plans to try for a VBAC but will have to wait and see I guess.

Comment from Mrsford2 » Posted Nov. 9, 2019 3:19pm Thanks! I have been to the diabetes clinic now and they do believe it will be easily controlled by diet. I’ve received my monitor and now have to check my blood 6 times a day, which is a huge hassle and stresses me out. They also have me eating 6 times a day, which I’m finding difficult - I’m just not hungry enough to eat that often. I go back next week with my numbers log and go from there. | |
Comment from hopingforbfp » Posted Nov. 8, 2019 4:37pm I was diagnosed with very early GD at only 7 weeks pregnant with my pregnancy with DS#2. I felt odd so I requested the glucose test early....and I was right! I ended up controlling it with diet and exercise (lots of walking!) until I was 37 weeks pregnant! Then I needed a low dose of medication from 37 weeks till birth which I had to take before I went to bed (it was like 0.25 mg- barely anything). Its manageable but very difficult because it's a battle of wanting to eat everything but not being able to! Hope the story gives you a little positivity that you'll do fine! Controlling through diet & exercise, taking medication for it, or insulin....whatever be the case, you've got this! :-) |
