Preterm contractions
By Blossome » Posted Oct. 1, 2011 7:16pm - 422 views - 0 comments

Early Friday morning I started having cramping at regular intervals, which over the course of a couple hours progressed into painful contractions. I went in to L&D, and was monitored, put on IV fluids, and checked for dilation. I was indeed having contractions, and was roughly 1cm dilated, but still very thick. The doc felt it was still too early for the boys to be born, so she gave me a dose of morphine to see if my body would relax enough to stop contracting on it's own. After about an hour, thankfully, it did. The contractions eased, and everything went back to feeling normal.

During the course of all the exams they did on me, however, they found that I had the very beginnings of a yeast infection, which they treated me for. When my urine came back, they found I had a bladder infection. I've been prescribed antibiotics for it for seven days. Then my protein came back too high, so I'm doing a 24 hour urine. I head back to triage on Sunday morning for monitoring, and to see if the protein count (combined with my mildly high BP during the contractions) amounts to preeclampsia. If it does, depending on the severity, I've been told to prepare myself for the possibility of needing a c-section in the coming week or two.

The boys are healthy and strong, according to the nurses they're 'little Romans' because they never stopped moving around and kicking at the monitors. They're doing well, now it's just a matter of playing the waiting game til Sunday comes. For now, I'm home on bed rest. I'm very on edge, and it's unfortunately not making things easier to just be sitting here. I'm trying to keep busy, but it's difficult when all the things I still need to do involve being up and active, which I'm not allowed to be.
