24th May 2013 - 8 week scan

Well, off we went after being told that here in Holland they do things slightly different to that in the UK.
They scan all expectant mothers at 8 weeks & then again at 13 weeks. They made me a rushed appt as they needed to do the scan before I met with the Midwife.

The clinic managed to squeeze me in literally the day after we'd had the initial "I'm pregnant conversation". The appt was booked for 2:30pm & I was praying that they would be able to detect 'something' after all my MS & fatigue.

The sonographer explained that she would do an abdominal scan & then follow on with an intravaginal scan for the finer details.

She popped on the probe & located our baby with a strong heartbeat, dating it at 8+5 weeks not 8+1 according to my LMP dates. The sonographer carried on checking with her probe & located YET ANOTHER HEARTBEAT!!!!! OMG WERE HAVING TWINS!!!!! Tears were rolling down my cheeks & when I glanced over at Ben, I discovered him sat staring at the screen in disbelief with an extremely white face frozen with fear, seconds later it completely dissolved & an extremely large smile spread across his face. If only I could have captured that moment. I have in my own head but to have a last picture to share with the world!
The sonographer did other checks to ensure there wasn't a third!!!!

After this beautiful & very blessed discovery, she advised that she continued with an internal scan to detect if the twins are ID or fraternal. Working with a very basic scanner she was 90% convince we are having a MCDA twins. Which indicates that they are ID & they have their own amniotic sac but share a placenta. She went on to explain that i will no longer see the midwives & will now be under gyn/obs for my care. She is going to arrange a further scan at the local hospital where they have a slightly better Ultrasound scanner to confirm the MCDA.

We are over the moon, its a little frightening at the beginning but we soon warmed to the very knowledge of how blessed we are. All my prayers have been answered. Thank you to all my spirits & spirit guides.
My prayers now consist of ensuring they both stick & grow well, Fingers crossed they reach our family with no problems.
My little family has so much love to give & I know that my Son & Daughter will make the best siblings to the new arrivals.
