1st Bump Insult
By HzlGreenEyes » Posted Oct. 21, 2015 2:14pm - 551 views - 11 comments

Ahhh. Today I heard my 1st Baby bump insult. Apparently this cashier's filter was malfunctioning today when she asked me when I was due. I told her my EDD is Feb 12 and her eyes widened and out of her mouth was, "Are you having twins?". Calmly I said, "No, no twins." She continued, " Are you sure?" I say, "Yes, I'm sure." She again continues, "You're carrying a little big." I then look down at my bump and say, "I had a stillborn in February and I got pregnant again right away." Her face dropped and she apologized.

I mean, as a woman... no wait, as a Mother who has been through this, what makes you feel the need to say something stupid like that. I get it and believe me, I know I am not large by any means. I am right where I need to be. I feel better knowing my lil guy is growing thus my belly is growing. After the nightmare I went through last time and I knew something was wrong because my Baby bump didn't grow past 32 cm I knew I was small for how far along I was.

But, come on now... if you asked if it was twins and the answer was "no" don't proceed to ask "are you sure?" People are so Stupid these days.

I kept my calm because I know I am not huge by any means. Ever since I went through the loss of Connor, I don't get easily offended by certain people who have no sense. They are just that Stupid that I have sympathy being they probably weren't taught manners. The response I got from her after I told her about having a stillborn in February was enough for me to shut her down and make her feel stupid for saying such a thing. Maybe she learned something that day.

Wow.... what makes people think it's okay to be so darn rude? You're looking fabulous, and you're smaller than I was at 22 weeks. I heard my first insult a couple of weeks ago too (was I pregnant or just fat) from an old lady; I didn't say anything back, I figured with her lack of teeth and bowed legs she had enough problems ;-) but seriously, people need to learn what politeness is, and how dangerous it can be to insult a hormonal woman!

Just reread my comment and I want to make it clear that I do not think you look fat.. at all. More just a comparison of commenting on a pregnant woman's appearance of what the equivalent would be to someone not pregnant and how they likely wouldn't say that. Just to be clear. I thought my first comment could possibly be taken the wrong way and I definitely did not want that!!

I'm so sorry you had to run into sometone who has no manners. Isn't it the equivalent of saying "Wow, you look really fat" to a complete stranger? BUT. I am really glad you said what you did to her. I really hope it makes her think about what comes out of her mouth in the future. I don't understand why anyone would ever say something like that. I've migrated to having less of a filter when people say dumb things to me about having babies. I used to bite my tongue, but now I tell them how many miscarriages I've had, how it isn't easy, etc.

PS - I think you look phenomenal!! Seriously. :)

The only person allowed to make any comments about the bump is the person who owns said bump! I get to make fun of myself and talk about how big I am but no one else does! I'm honestly shocked I haven't had any stupid comments. And "are you sure it's not twins?" I love those kind of questions. What does the person expect the response to be, "well the doctor and ultrasound techs keep saying its only one but maybe they're wrong and I'm pregnant with triplets!"
