Valerie's 1 month appointment

Valerie had her 1 month check up this morning. She is 11lbs 1.5oz and 22.5 inches long now. Her doctor confirmed she has colic and may be lactose sensitive. So she gave us samples of 2 different formulas to try. Hopefully it helps her spit/throw up problem and her colic. Valerie has also been having some slight issues breathing. She has had a lot of congestion since birth and sometimes she will stop breathing for about 10 seconds before she startles and takes a deep breath. It's mostly when she's sleeping that it happens. Her doctor said it's normal for an infant to do that, but I don't remember my boys ever doing that. I'm keeping a close eye one her, because she did that 5 times last night after a projectile throw up session. I suctioned out her nose and mouth after she threw up, but she still did it. It is scary as hell. I slept maybe 1 hour last night, so I am guzzling coffee today. But other than the spit up/throw up, colic, and breathing issue, she is perfectly healthy.

I also had to reschedule my 6 week PP appointment. It was storming pretty bad out when I had to take my husband to work and I was not taking all 3 of my kids out in it. I'm glad I didn't, because my 16 month old woke up covered in vomit as my husband was walking out the door. He wasn't running a fever or anything, so we think he just had an upset tummy. But yea. I really can't wait until we have the money to get my husband's truck fixed, so I don't have to take him to work if I need the van. It's a huge pain in the butt to get the kids up, take him to work, and get them all to go back to sleep.

Speaking of sleep, I am so taking a nap after we pick my husband up from work this afternoon. I am exhausted after being up with Valerie all night.

Sorry about the colic but glad she is doing good overall! Get some rest momma! We have our second appt. With the pediatrician tomorrow and I'm anxious to see how much weight he's gained since last week!

Tmhess, that is one of the samples her doctor gave us, the AR. She also gave us a soy based formula sample. She gave us enough to last a week of each, so we can really see if there is a difference.

Sorry about the colic. :( Glad she is healthy otherwise though. :) I understand about the breathing thing, watching her sleep and stop breathing for 5-10 seconds is scary. They say it is normal but it is still so scary to see.

I don't know if it is the same thing but my daughter was congested a lot, but it would come and go. It turned out she had silent reflux (she wasn't actually throwing up). She would basically throw up into her throat or the acid would come up into the back of her throat and she ended up getting a lot of phlegm as a reaction to the irritation. We switched her to Enfamil AR at the pediatricians suggestion and the reflux symptoms stopped almost completely and the congestion/phlegm went away entirely.

We've been having a ton of rain here. It's flooding everywhere. I am so glad it's not snow or ice. I wouldn't be going anywhere if that was the case. Lol. I don't do snow. I hope you are able to reinstate his license and get a second vehicle in February! I know how much it sucks to be stuck at home, or where ever, and have to depend on others for a ride.

Sorry you aren't sleeping well. I can understand, though. I would be on edge with the breathing thing, too. I got so lucky with my first two daughters on the whole spit up issue. They NEVER spit up. My oldest did just one time as we were walking out the door to head to a Mother's Day brunch, but that was it. Blessed! Hopefully her new formula will help! We had a horrible winter storm here in the last couple days as well. Mostly just ice. Everything is covered in ice, and there have been lots of power outages. We also only have one vehicle in our household, so I feel your pain. My SO had lost his license and sold his truck before we got together. He's now eligible to get his license back, but we haven't had the money to pay the reinstatement fees and get a second vehicle. Hoping that will be first on the to-do list in February! Anyways... glad everything is going well!
